I see it a lot actually, but usually involving the model’s name. Probably to make it look somewhat more “authentic” or something?

It fits the standard sequence for UK plates.
Looks like the format is usually two letters for area of issue, two numbers that signify what half-year the plate was applied for, three letters unique to that car.
And, outside of vanity plates and such, plates usually stay with the car, not the owner. So, they use plates like we use VINs.
